Your favorite ways to unwind in Japan

A few little stressors have been popping up in my life lately, so I was wondering about your favorite ways to unwind here -- the big and the small. One of mine is definitely onsen when I have the chance to go, but that's not always an "easy to do everyday" thing. Let me know in the comments so I can incorporate some of them into my routine!

Going to see a large flower display or a park with lots of different flowers always works magic for me. It combines three of my loves; walking, taking photos and the flowers themselves! I also like a hot spring every now and then. Getting a nice coffee, preferably in a new-to-me cafe, with friends is also another way I can shake off any stressors and recharge.

@BigfamJapan Getting out into nature is always a great de-stress tactic! One of my favorites, too! :)

Crafting is one. My latest project is scrapbooking. I'll share it with the English club at the high school where I teach. An idea is to combine original text with recycled scraps and photos.

@TonetoEdo I love scrapbooking! I also appreciate that there are lots of inexpensive supplies here (at least in comparison to my home country) for crafting, such as 100 yen store items.

@genkidesu Have a peek at my latest blog about Ichikawa City with two digital scrapbook images. I'm also playing with paper scrapbooking. It's a great way to preserve maps, pamphlets, and tickets from adventures around Japan.

@TonetoEdo Those are so pretty! I never knew you could do digital scrapbooking in Canva, I've done paper-based scrapbooking for some time now, but I really like the digital ones you created.

@genkidesu I'm also doing paper scraps, any bits I can recycle into interesting designs. It's a way to create art from images that represent our experiences. It's a lot of fun and seems to appeal to my students in an extra-curricular English club.

The newspaper and you!

Do you get a newspaper delivered to your house or buy one in a shop or subscribe to / read one daily online? Or just read it every now and then? Or can you not remember the last time you read the newspaper?

Japan's best bready offerings

You may have seen my recent blog, but Japan's kare pan was named one of the world's 50 best breads by CNN. What's your favorite bakery item here in Japan? Would love to hear your thoughts!

What's your favorite aspect of Japan's culture?

With Culture Day coming up next month, I'm curious to hear what tradition, habit, or value my fellow City-Cost bloggers most appreciate about living here. I know there's a lot to choose from, so if you have to mention a few things go right ahead!

Has life in Japan improved your body image?

I think overall I've become more accepting of my body during my years in Japan, and I would say a big part of that is because of onsen culture. It has made me realize that bodies are just that...bodies...and they come in all different shapes and sizes. I'm wondering how you feel about your own body image based on your time here. Has it helped or hindered your perception?
