I'm wondering how much income I need to be able to live in Japan?

I'm planning to study in Japan, If possible get a job and stay as long as I can. How much is the average salary in Tokyo, and would I be able to survive on just one salary? I'm also considering to stay in Takadanobaba area of Shinjuku, but if you have any other recommendations, let me know.

220,000 - 250,000 is enough at least if you are single person. also it depends on where you want to live. this amount of money is not enough if you consider to live in central Tokyo like near by Shibuya, Aoyama, Roppongi.

200k to 250k a month is enough for living, including your tuition fee of study.

250,000 is enough but if you are married maybe 400,000 yen. It all depends what lifestyle you have.

It all depends on your choices and lifestyle. If you go out every weekend, eat takeout, travel, and shop, you'll obviously need a higher income. Add to that optional expenses like home internet, a mobile phone, transport, and there are so many variables. If you want to live cheaply in Japan, you definitely can live under 200,000 P/M. 250,000 is a nice comfortable amount for a single person though.

When I moved in, I spent around 200,000 yen. I live in a 2LDK with 1 roommate. I spend about 15k a month for transpo, 40k a month for rental, 15k a month for bills (electricity, water, gas, phone) and 15k-20k a month for food. With all other expenses, I spend more or less 100k a month in total.

What unusual items do you have in your emergency bag?

In honor of Disaster Prevention Day and further to the preparedness articles I just wrote, I am curious: what item/s do you have in your emergency bag aka disaster preparedness kit, that might not be common nationwide?

Reflections on our home countries after living in Japan

I think one thing living in Japan has given me is an appreciation of things my country does really well, and things it doesn't do so well in comparison to here. For instance, I think Australia is great with annual leave entitlements. You get four weeks automatically (some workplaces offer even more!) and there's not any guilt associated with taking it. Something we don't do so well is public transport. I know that Australia is a massive country, but there has been talk of creating a high speed rail option from Melbourne to Sydney for ages, and nothing has ever come of it. It's basically an 8 hour drive or flying. Also, inner city trains are regularly not on time. What are the things you think your home country does better or worse than Japan?

Hair Color Treatments for Greying Hair

For those of you who have colored grey hair, I'm curious about the hair color treatments available in most drugstores. They seem simpler to use than box dyes. It's been many years since I've colored my hair. It's a chestnut brown and my grey is more silver. I don't hate it but the grey is dry and making me feel like I look older than I am. I'm especially interested in the natural brands that are non-permanent. For example Rishiri Kombu sounds like a decent option. Looking forward to your recommendations and experience.

Database error

Anyone else getting a database error after you log in? So far, it looks like I can still write posts, but I had trouble logging in and after log in my home page looks different to normal with a "database error" message.
