Fears in Japan that you didn't have in your home country?

I've written a number of blogs here on City-Cost about how bears are a real worry in my area these days, and it's something that I didn't have to concern myself with in my home country. I know people talk about snakes and spiders in Australia being deadly (and yes, there are some types that are), but they're not typically going to come and attack you unprovoked. Also, it's a lot easier to outrun a snake or a spider than a bear ;) I'm curious about the rest of you, if you have fears here that maybe weren't present in your country of origin. Let me know in the comments!

Several! The most dangerous creature I Ireland is probably the bee, so I'm quite fearful of several of Japan's creatures including suzumebachi, mukade and mamushi. Only since I had children though, because each of those could kill a baby. But even though my kids are older now the fear remains!

@BigfamJapan Ireland sounds like a really nice place to be! I remember you saying there's not really a natural disaster risk there, and the fact that bees are the most dangerous animal makes it seem pretty calm and chill there!

Noda City Hall has posted increased sightings and trappings of wild boar. I'm not afraid of them as I've met some captive ones, so I have a general idea of how they behave. The ones habituated to humans just want back scratches and treats. The sow I met was massive. I cycle everywhere on errands, and I worry about encountering wild ones. The advice is to face them (don't turn your back on them), make noise, and get behind a barrier. A boar charges like a freight train.

Today, November 22nd, is Wakayama Prefecture Hometown Birthday. What do you most associate with Wakayama Prefecture? To be honest, I realized in writing about this 'birthday', that I know next to nothing about Wakayama Prefecture. I'm really interested to hear what your image of the prefecture is.
