A nice shrine to add to a Kyoto visit
I really liked Heian Shrine when I visited. The grounds here are massive and there's a ton to explore, including some really lovely gardens that are well worth a stroll through. I could have spent much longer than I did here, but we had a pretty jam packed itinerary. I highly recommend that if you're visiting the shrine, you add on a trip to the Kyoto Handicraft Center while you're there. We did both in the same morning, and it was the perfect way to experience some different sides of the area's fascinating culture. Admission to the shrine itself is free, but the gardens are 600 yen. Please visit the gardens too if you can!
