Remains my favorite zoo in Japan
I have been to several zoos in Japan, some of which are larger and have more animals than Saitama Children's zoo, but I always come back to Saitama Children's Zoo! When my children were small I had an annual pass. Now that they are older I don't visit as often, but I try to go at least once a year. Over the years they have frequently made changes and improvements and every few years they introduce a new animal. For example, the Quokka are a relatively new addition - they arrived in 2020 and Saitama Children's zoo was the first place to get them in all of Japan. They are currently renovating the petting zoo. And earlier this year they opened a new living area for the Quokka. Right now is capybara onsen season.

Saitama Children's Zoo
The Saitama Children Zoo is on a very hilly place. The area of the zoo itself, where you can see animals is kind of small, but the park area is very huge. That´s why many families use it for sports, picnic or just enjoying a nice weekend walking around. The is also a small amusement park, a pool in summer and a small train, which will bring you around the area. One of the most interesting areas of the zoo for me was the australian section, where you can see many animals from australia like very cute koalas and wallabies. On the other side of the park are animals like cows, capybaras and smaller pets. Also if you are a horse/pony fan you will be very happy there. You can see and ride on many diffrent ponys and also take a look in their horse stable. Really nice for kids! Since the area is really huge it is recommend to use the small park train from time to time, especially for kids it might be to much walking up and down. If you are really want to see many animals like in a normal zoo, this place might disappoint you, but if you want to walk around in a huge park and see from time to time some animals the zoo is totally ok.
