  • Coffee and Down Time

The morning set is basic, but with any coffee on the menu, it becomes light years better. The morning set is a half slice of fluffy, sinewy white bread toasted with either butter or strawberry jam. You can add egg salad, a hard boiled egg, or a helping of sweet bean jam. I highly recommend you thrown in a salad or maybe some yogurt. The coleslaw is a little too vinegary for me. The breakfast is more of an excuse for the older patrons to slowly nibble on while they read the newspaper, write in their food/spending journals, or study. On any given early morning, about an hour after opening, the place will be a 10-20 minute wait for seating, so go early if you want to walk in and go straight to an open seat. The ice coffee was frosty and excellent, the flavor mild and made even more so by a tiny pitcher of cream. The iced cafe au lait was served in a chilled glass, so it made it an even better culinary experience. All of the coffee flavors are mild, so if you like strong, dark roasts, Komeda may not be the place for you. The service was excellent and super speedy, even as it got busier. The entire cafe has a very 1950s sort of diner aesthetic, which I positively adored.
