An important update
Since I wrote this review there have been some major changes at this location. First and foremost, you can no longer publish photos of the location online and you have to swear an affidavit that you will not share any photos you take at this location online. I visited at a time when there was no such stipulation so I was able to share some photos. In addition, you now have to book in advance and pay a fee. I think its 1000 yen. I've deducted a star due to these changes.

A must visit for fans of My Neighbour Totoro
A great place to visit for fans of the Ghibli classic My Neighbour Totoro, especially kids, particularly as it is close to Tokyo. Please note it is only open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm. There is a large Totoro statue in one of the tatami rooms downstairs as well as Totoro paraphernalia in two of the three buildings. The "kura" storehouse also has diorama from the movie. The house is part of the larger Totoro Fund's Totoro Forest. It is essentially free in, but as the place is run by volunteers and sustained by contributions, they welcome donations. No parking, but there is a reasonably priced car park nearby for about ten cars. You will find even more information on the City-cost blog pages or Saitama With Kids blog.
