Closed and transformed into an Asian grocery
What a bummer. Just steps from Kawama Station on the Tobu Urban Park Line, this authentic Vietnamese restaurant was my go-to for weekend takeout. The Asian grocery store next door has taken over the premises. The expanded layout in the former restaurant makes it easier to find Southeast Asian foods of all kinds, including some fresh meats and vegetables. It looks like I have to make my own pho from the choice ingredients at this specialty shop.

Authentic Vietnamese food
This Vietnamese restaurant opened recently at Kawama Station's south exit. You'll see a bright lighted signboard in Japanese and English. Inside, the Vietnamese staff don't all speak Japanese or English, so get your translation app ready if you don't speak Vietnamese! I ordered a bowl of pho for takeout. The chef prepared it with the soup in a separate bag so that the noodles don't get soggy. It's got a lovely fresh aroma, light and lots of herbs, and of course, cilantro. The host served a cup of chilled lotus tea while I waited. This place is a gem, and next door is a Vietnamese grocery store to get all the fixings. The restaurant is open for lunch and closes in the afternoon, but opens again from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day.
