Various lines make it convenient
It's always handy (IMO, anyway!) when stations are served by multiple lines, and Kitasenju Station has a host of them running through it. The lines are also served by multiple companies (JR East, Tobu Railway, and Tokyo Metro) which makes for some added convenience, too. As other reviews noted, this is a busy station -- I feel like places like Shinjuku and Shibuya Station immediately conjure up those busy vibes, but Kitasenju perhaps doesn't seem that way until you see their passenger stats.

Third busiest metro
Kita-senju station is the third busiest station on the Tokyo Metro, but the station is also served by Japan Railway lines. The JR lines are at ground level and they alone serve thousands of passengers a day. Then underground you have the Metro. Kita-senju station is a convenient and well connected hub in 'old Tokyo'.

Complex multi-line station easy to navigate
Kitasenju Station, among the top ten busiest train stations in Japan, is compact because the lines are on multiple floors. Tobu, JR, Tokyo Metro, and the Tsukuba Express all intersect here. The navigation is pretty clear and the east side of the station is open-air so it's bright. You can walk under the station through a pedestrian tunnel connecting the east and west sides of the station. Note that the concourse has different levels of floor surfaces, so look out for the slopes when you're pulling suitcases or pushing strollers.
