Info center in a conbini...

I was surprised to find a public-private partnership in Funabashi Station's nearest 7-11. It's a tourism information center run by a company contracted to promote the city. The staff hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and the 7-11 convenience store appears to be open 24 hours. You can pick up pamphlets, consult the staff, and see local info on screens above the reception desk. I got a pamphlet with recommended walking routes of itineraries suggesting sightseeing, shopping, and dining. It's a great idea to combine the two facilities, and the execution is good...But the customers don't get it! The counter space is reserved for visitors (there is free WIFI here), and big signs indicate no food or drink allowed. But when I was there, conbini customers tucked into their snacks and ice creams. And no, it wasn't mannerless inbound visitors. It was local obachans and school kids!
