    Fun spot for a browse

I've only popped in here a couple of times, mainly for a bit of fun browsing when I first moved to Japan. I actually went hunting for an ugly Christmas sweater during my first Christmas here, and found one -- I don't know if they still have them these days, as I haven't stopped by in several years now. I do think that part of the appeal here is just browsing - I don't know that I'd dub myself fashionable enough to know how to style half the stuff on sale here. However, if you're a bit of a retro/quirky trendsetter, you'll probably love it.

    Fashionable used clothing

Harajuku is known for being at the forefront of street fashion. If you want to get in on some of that action, you should check out the thrift stores in the area. There are so many to choose from, with some being better than others. Chicago is one of the really good ones. It's conveniently located on Omotesando, so if you're heading to Harajuku you'll most likely pass by it. Despite the neon sign, it can be hard to miss because the actual entrance is a staircase going into a downstairs basement where the shop is. As soon as you step in, you're surrounded by cool clothes. Unfortunately, the women's section is more well stocked than the men's is, but that doesn't mean that men shouldn't check it out too! Besides, you can pick up vintage pins and patches here that are great for either gender. And, if you're looking for traditional Japanese kimono, Chicago has that covered as well. I was actually surprised seeing it, because a lot of the "fashionable" second hand shops that I visit don't tend to have those kinds of things. So you can really pick up something unique. The prices are all over the place. Maybe it's because I'm from the US, so I know that a random high school shirt from South Dakota shouldn't cost 2000 yen just because it has English on it, but there are a lot of things like that here. Thankfully, you can also find some really good deals (under 500 yen) as well. You just have to be willing to search!
