    Fun for kids

We've visited a number of aquariums in Japan, from Tokyo to Okinawa and even our local here in Niigata City - we find them great for an educational yet fun experience for our kids (4 and 2 years old). The Osaka Kaiyukan Aquarium is another great one for the littlies, and I particularly appreciated this one for the section on the Great Barrier Reef, bringing me back to Australia momentarily. As is the case with many aquariums, there are a number of hands on exhibits here - the touch pool in particular is impressive and seemed to be a hit not just with my kids but with everyone there. If you're in the area and looking for a way to entertain little ones but educate them at the same time it's worth a visit. Pricier than our local in Niigata, though!

    Great for Marine Life Lovers!

At a 10 minutes walk from Osakako Station on the Chuo subway line, and in the Tempozan Harbor Village, lies one of the largest aquariums in world. I started my visit by walking through beautiful Japan forest area, then descending gradually to view 15 different tanks depicting 620 species. My favorite was the whale shark, placed in a huge 9 meter fish tank. An amazing view! Once I finished my visit, I went to Tempozan Market Place, a shopping mall next to the aquarium. I enjoyed a peaceful night view of Osaka bay while drinking coffee.
