A day for the TOEIC exam
October 19th annually is TOEIC day. The date is from a pun on 10/19 that reads "to (10) i (1) ku (9)". TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) is an internationally recognized English proficiency test for non-native speakers in professional and corporate settings. TOEIC Day was established by the International Business Communication Association (IIBC), which has a secretariat Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, and conducts TOEIC in Japan.
The TOEIC Listening & Reading Test, which began in 1979, is widely used and has become a global standard for measuring communicative English proficiency required in business settings. It is used in more than 150 countries around the world and it is estimated that it is used by over 14,000 companies and organizations worldwide to evaluate English skills needed for the workplace. In 2018, in Japan alone, 2.66 million people took the test.
Have you ever prepared students and / or your children for the TOEIC test? For the non native English speakers, have you ever taken the TOEIC test?
