The good
I'm not a huge sweets fan, but I have a weakness for treats that balance bitter and sweet flavours. I was confident that this item, 7 Cafe Uji Matcha cookie, would deliver. The cookie is the size of the palm of my hand, hefty, and even better, soft and chewy. The matcha tea powder infuses the cookie dough. It's also got white chocolate chips providing a sweet, smooth, and lightly astringent contrast. The cookie made me think of matcha lattes. It's a cheap treat, too, at 138 yen. I had mine with a cup of coffee.
The not so good
I liked the 7 Cafe Uji Matcha cookie, a chunky, chewy treat for just 138 yen. The cookie reminded me of a matcha latte. I think the white chocolate chips make it creamy. Like I said in the positives, I imagined this treat to be more bitter. In fact, it's very sweet, likely to appeal to chocolate cookie fans. The Uji matcha flavour shines through. This is the premium tea variety in Japan, served in tea ceremonies and offered to the imperial family. It's more than just a tea; it's a culinary ingredient. I think the flavour ought not to be overpowered by sugar.
