The description
Distiller Hamada Syuzou makes chill Highball spicy & citrus shochu. It's a barley-based shochu with botanicals. This is a canned highball version with 5% alcohol.
The good
I can't say I know a lot about shochu, but some offerings I've tried, like barley and imo shochu, are aromatic and complex. Some shochu distillers do ready-to-drink highball versions. Are they a tease? Or a lower alcohol version for those who are familiar with the drink? Maybe it's both. I found Chill Green spicy & citrus at a 7-11. The soothing deep green label suggests the contents. Distiller Hamada Syuzou launched Chill Green Spicy & Citrus, a botanical shochu, in 2023. The highball is spicy, citrusy, and a little bitter.
The not so good
The flavour profile of this highball version of Chill Green spicy & citrus shochu is complex. I'd recommend it to someone curious about shochu and gin. I think it's worth a try once. The base is made with traditional barley schochu. The mash is prepared with a spice, maqaw, imported from Taiwan. The alcohol volume of the shochu is 25%, but this chuhai version is 5%. This one is for people who appreciate gin and shochu with botanicals. The maqaw results in a spicy, lemony, and herbal flavour. It's chill and certainly green.
