Things I didn't try early on: The DIY packs of fireworks

A little fun fact for you: it's illegal to ignite fireworks in most of my home country, with a couple of very small exceptions. I think that's probably in big part due to the bushfire risk that big parts of Australia face, and I can understand why they wouldn't want everyone just having access to things that could cause issues in that regard.

It took me years to feel comfortable buying those DIY packs of fireworks you can find at supermarkets and the like around the summer months here. Now, I think they're super fun (obviously you've still got to be careful!) and my kids think they're the best thing since sliced bread. They will be in for a rude awakening if we ever have to move back to Australia, and will have to readjust their summertime expectations!
