Motion Sickness Prevention Day

April 10th is Motion Sickness Prevention Day 酔い止めの日 in Japan. It is a commemorative day established in 2016 by a maker of cough drops and over‑the‑counter health products. The date comes from the play on how 4/10 can be read as "motion sickness prevention"; "yo (4) ido (10) me.

The timing is both practical and thoughtful: to help families enjoy the upcoming travel season: Golden Week, school trips, summer outings etc. without the stress of motion sickness. The company that created the anniversary in turn are hoping that people will pick up their motion sickness medicine that was designed especially for children, "toraberoppu QQ".

As someone who suffered from motion sickness in cars, buses and even planes as a child, I appreciate travel sickness tablets! The day is officially registered with the Japan Anniversary Association, placing it among Japan’s many niche but meaningful commemorations.
