Money isn't everything with Father's Day gifts in Japan

One thing I've learned throughout the years is that gift-giving isn't about the amount you spend, but about actually showing appreciation for someone in a way that feels personal and considered. I think that's true for any occasion, really, and a recent survey from Mirai Lab Co., Ltd. made that apparent for Father's Day, too.

Their research polled 100 Japanese men aged 30 to 60, and over 60% said they cared more about the sentiment behind a Father’s Day gift than the price. While some were comfortable with gifts up to ¥10,000, the majority expressed happiness with something simple, meaningful, and practical, especially if it aligns with their hobbies or lifestyle.

Food and drink topped the list of preferred gifts, followed by wearable items, hobby gear, and family time. I think all of those things are quite practical, and I loved to see that family time made the cut, too.

Are you purchasing anything for the father figure in your life, whether that's your own father, a father in law, or the father of your children if you have them? Do you have a budget or gift ideas in mind as yet?
