Foreign worker numbers on the up-and-up!

I saw an article a couple of weeks ago that I'd been meaning to mention on here! It noted that the foreign workforce here has topped 2.5 million for the first time ever, with the top five nationalities being Vietnamese (about 606,000), Chinese (about 432,000), the Philippines (about 261,000), Nepal (about 236,000) and Indonesia (about 228,000).

I think there are lots of benefits to this (maybe I'm biased, being a foreigner myself!) but one huge plus is the support for key sectors facing urgent staff shortages. The biggest increases in foreign workers were in fields like medical and welfare services, hospitality, and construction, which are all under pretty intense demand. More workers in healthcare and elder care are especially important as the elderly population continues to grow, and I think more and more that's going to rely on outside help.

Is your home country in the top five list mentioned above, or do you work in one of the in demand industries?
